I really don't know what is considered "proper" in a case like that. Were the people taking care of your grandmother close to her from the beginning until she passed? If so, I can see that they probably became very close to her, and would probably consider a keepsake a very sweet and sentimental gesture. I've worked with the elderly, and they very often became like my own family. These people should definitely be commended in some way for all they did for your grandmother, not everyone can do that type of work, and most of them see what they do as way more than "just a job."

Entrepreneur magazine publishes a how-to guide on starting a Home Health Agency, you may want to look into that. As for pricing, just call the competition and price yourself competitively to them. Dont go cheaper, people are suspicious of lower-cost home health – and for good reason. LOTS of fly by nights out there. You can advertise to seniors, disabled populations, etc. Lots of publications and networking groups that cater to these. Go to http://www.score.org and find your local SCORE office. They offer free consulting to help you start up, and they are SBA affiliated so they are not a scam.

How many disk and where do you live? My dh had disk replacement done using bone graphs from his hip and several pins and screws and he was only down a few days and was back at work before 6 weeks. The only pt he had was getting out of bed and walking the next day and the day after. He had the surgery done on a tus morning and we went home 4 days later on a friday. Also don't spoil him too much or he will expect it all the time.

sounds like your hospital really dropped the ball here. You should have been talking with the social worker while she was still in the hospital to work these details out. I would talk to your great aunt's doctor first to get some referrals for some help. you cant do it all alone.
